Ingrown Hairs - Old Hypothesis and new BREEJ Hypothesis

Ingrown Hairs: Real Cause, Removal and Treatment

In this write up, I want to bring everyone up to date on the real cause of Ingrown hairs and how to quickly Resolve Ingrown Hairs

http://ScienceofShaving.com/

What Are Ingrown Hairs/Entrapped Hairs and How are they Caused?

Ingrown hairs [more appropriately referred to as entrapped hairs] result when existing shaving bumps [caused by shaving] block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into the existing bumps [blocking the hair follicles] as they try to find a way to exit [hence the name ‘ingrown hairs’].

Shaving Bumps precede ingrown hairs and as such ingrown hairs are Not the cause of shaving bumps.

BREEJ Technologies disagrees with the widely held view that Shaving Bumps are caused by “ingrown” hairs – wiry, curly hairs that curl and grow back into the skin.” This concept of “ingrown” hairs has led to a lot of poking & probing of the shaved area with tweezers often further aggravating the problem. BREEJ discourages this practice as the additional trauma can lead to infection, hyper pigmentation and significant skin damage.

BREEJ postulates that “Shaving Bumps are Primarily caused by Trauma from Shaving, resulting in inflammation of the shaved area manifested as “bumps” as the body reacts to the trauma, compounded at times by Bacterial/Fungal Infections. Induction of Melanogenesis [production of the skin the pigment melanin in melanosomes by melanocytes] ] by Irritated keratinocytes in response to the trauma from shaving produces additional inflammatory mediators exacerbating the condition [this is the main reason why men of color with higher levels of melanin have a higher incidence of shaving bumps]”

Ingrown Hairs - Old Hypothesis and new BREEJ Hypothesis
Ingrown Hairs – Old Hypothesis and new BREEJ Hypothesis

Ingrown hairs [more appropriately referred to as entrapped hairs] can result when existing shaving bumps [caused by shaving] block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into the existing bumps as they try to find a way to exit

It is practically impossible [based on the structure of the Stratum Corneum] for the hair outside the skin [or hair cut at an angle] to curl and grow back into the skin contrary to what is claimed and published by many!

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF INGROWN HAIRS/ENTRAPPED HAIRS?

Since Shaving Bumps [caused by shaving] block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into the existing bumps [hence Ingrown hairs], the best way to get rid of ingrown hairs is to resolve the Existing Shaving Bumps. Once the Shaving Bumps are resolved, the Ingrown Hairs/Entrapped Hairs are freed and can easily be shaved off.

The Existing Shaving Bumps are best resolved using an Effective Anti-Bump Product [formulated with powerful anti inflammatories, anti bacterials, anti fungals and skin conditioners] such as:

BUMP TERMINATOR Severe Bump Lotion

BUMP TERMINATOR Extra Strength Severe Bump Lotion

Bump Terminator Anti-Razor Bump Serum For Women

Bump Terminator Alcohol Free Anti-Razor Bump Serum For Women

It is very important to quickly resolve the Shaving Bumps as the condition will get worse if untreated and could lead to formation of Keloids in Keloid-prone individuals

HOW SHOULD I GET RID OF DAMAGED/DARKENED SKIN CAUSED BY BACK OF HEAD BUMPS?

Use a good Skin Repair And Brightening Cream Product [formulated with powerful skin repair agents, skin brighteners and skin conditioners] to resolve damaged/darkened skin such as the Bump Zapper Skin Repair And Brightening Cream

HOW SHOULD I ENSURE THAT SHAVING BUMPS [INGROWN HAIRS] DO NOT COME BACK?

Use a good Post Shave Lotion [formulated with powerful anti inflammatories, anti bacterials, anti fungals and skin conditioners] such as:

Bump Zapper Anti Bump Soothing Aftershave Lotion to soothe and condition the shaved skin.

BACK OF HEAD BUMPS – HOW TO GET RID OF BACK OF HEAD BUMPS FAST

Back of Head Bumps are Notoriously difficult to resolve and in this write up, I want to bring everyone up to date on the real cause of the difficult to resolve Back of Head Bumps and how to get rid of Back of Head Bumps quickly

DEFINITIONS/EXPLANATIONS

What Are Back of Head Bumps And How Are They Caused?

Back of Head Bumps are Primarily caused by the Trauma from Shaving [or hair removal from the back of the neck], resulting in inflammation of the shaved area manifested as “bumps” as the body reacts to the trauma, compounded at times by Bacterial/Fungal Infections. Induction of Melanogenesis by Irritated keratinocytes during shaving [hair removal] produces additional inflammatory mediators exacerbating the condition [this is the main reason why men of color with higher levels of melanin have a higher incidence of shaving bumps]”

The Back of the Head/Neck area is very sensitive to irritation and should never be shaved with razors. It is best to use clippers/trimmers to gently shave this area to minimize irritation.

BREEJ Technologies disagrees with the widely held [and incorrect] view that Shaving Bumps are caused by “ingrown” hairs – wiry, curly hairs that curl and grow back into the skin.” This concept of “in-grown” hairs has led to a lot of poking & probing of the shaved area with tweezers often further aggravating the problem. BREEJ discourages this practice as the additional trauma can lead to infection, hyper pigmentation and significant skin damage.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF BACK OF HEAD BUMPS?

As Back of Head Bumps are Notoriously difficult to resolve, use a Powerful Anti-Bump Product [formulated with powerful anti inflammatories, anti bacterials, anti fungals and skin conditioners] such as:

BUMP TERMINATOR Severe Bump Lotion

BUMP TERMINATOR Extra Strength Severe Bump Lotion

It is very important to quickly resolve Back of Bead Bumps as the condition will get worse if untreated and could lead to formation of Keloids in Keliod-prone individuals

SHOULD I GET A HAIRCUT IF I HAVE BACK OF HEAD BUMPS?

If there is a lot of hair around the area with the bumps, it is best to gently remove as much hair as possible from the area with the bumps [without irritating the bumps] before using the BUMP TERMINATOR Severe Bumps/Extra Strength Lotion to resolve the Back of Head Bumps.

SHOULD I USE A PRE SHAVE LOTION BEFORE SHAVING THE BACK OF HEAD/NECK AREA?

Yes, it is best to use a good anti bump pre-shave lotion such as the BREEJ Anti Bump Pre-Electric Shave Lotion to cleanse and lubricate the area to be shaved using a clipper/trimmer

HOW SHOULD I GET RID OF DAMAGED/DARKENED SKIN CAUSED BY BACK OF HEAD BUMPS?

Use a good Skin Repair And Brightening Cream Product [formulated with powerful skin repair agents, skin brighteners and skin conditioners to resolve damaged/darkened skin such as the Bump Zapper Skin Repair And Brightening Cream

HOW SHOULD I ENSURE THAT BACK OF HEAD BUMPS [INGROWN HAIRS DO NOT COME BACK]?

Use a good Post Shave Lotion [formulated with powerful anti inflammatories, anti bacterials, anti fungals and skin conditioners] such as:

Bump Zapper Anti Bump Soothing Aftershave Lotion to soothe and condition the shaved skin.

BREEJ Technologies Announces New Razor Shaving Guide for Black Men

About The FREE Razor Shaving Guide for Black Men
In issuing the Science of Shaving® Razor Shaving Guide for Black Men, BREEJ Technologies wants to demystify how shaving bumps and ingrown hairs are caused, how to quickly resolve existing shaving bumps and how Black men can shave the face, neck area and head with the proper razor – the multi-blade razor. BREEJ Technologies has elucidated the inflammatory pathways involved in shaving bumps formation and developed a comprehensive product line to quickly and effectively eliminate all kinds of shaving bumps and ingrown hairs making razor shaving possible for black men

ScienceofShaving.com

An estimated 70% of Black men [about 7 million] currently do not shave with razors mainly due to problems with shaving bumps. Most Black men erroneously believe that shaving with razors result in shaving bumps. BREEJ Technologies in issuing this guide wants to set the record straight that black men can shave with razors; however they must first resolve existing shaving bumps/ingrown hairs and shave with the right razor – a multi-blade razor. Multi-blade razors are best for black men as they cause minimal irritation compared to single blade razors. Black men are subjected to additional inflammatory mediators during shaving due to their higher levels of melanin [the skin pigment]

About Shaving Bumps
Shaving Bumps, also referred to as ingrown hairs, [more appropriately referred to as “entrapped hairs”] pseudofolliculitis barbae or pfb, plague over 10 million African American men in the USA and over 300 million men of color worldwide. Shaving bumps; including the very difficult to treat back-of-the-head/neck bumps, represent a very significant issue for Black men. Some have seen limitations in their careers as well as major social setbacks due to their inability to get smooth shaves. Many have reluctantly given up shaving altogether.
Shaving Bumps and ingrown hairs also plague over 100 million men and women from other ethnic groups worldwide. For men the face is red, irritated and covered with bumps. In women there are bumps and redness in the bikini line area, legs, underarms and face.

BREEJ Technologies disagrees with the widely held view that Shaving Bumps are caused by “in-grown” hairs – wiry, curly hairs that curl and grow back into the skin.” This concept of “in-grown” hairs has led to a lot of poking & probing of the shaved area with tweezers often further aggravating the problem. EXISTING SHAVING BUMPS TREATMENT

You must first resolve existing bumps before resuming shaving

[never use tweezers to pull out “ingrown hairs”. pulling out “ingrown hairs” as this will result in damaged/darkened skin]

Use a good anti-bump product or kit to resolve existing bumps such as the Bump Zapper Severe Bumps Kit or Bump Terminator Lotions from BREEJ Technologies prior to resumption of shaving

Shaving over existing bumps [especially with classic razors] will only worsen the condition

Use a good skin repair and brightening cream product to resolve damaged/darkened skin [caused by shaving bumps] such as the Bump Zapper Skin Repair And Brightening Cream

RAZOR SHAVING FOR BLACK MEN

Black Men Should Only Shave with a Multi-Blade Razor

The best razor for Black men is the multi-blade razor for the following reasons:

Multi-Blade Razors cause minimal irritation [irritation from shaving is the main cause of shaving bumps as noted earlier]

Multi-Blade Razors are easier to use and cause fewer nicks and cuts especially for first time users or users transitioning from other shaving methods

Multi-Blade Razors shave more surface area per stroke and as such results in faster shaving

Prepare your skin for shaving by first cleansing and lubricating the area to be shaved with a good face wash and shave gel such as the Bump Terminator 2-in-1 Anti Bump Face Wash/Shave Gel

It is best to shave in the shower so the hair is first softened by the warm water

Shave with a Multi-Blade Razor [Never Shave your face with a single Blade Razor]

Soothe and Condition the shave area using the Bump Zapper Anti Bump Soothing Lotion

Shave every day as it is much easier

DON’TS

Black men should NEVER shave with Single Blade Razors for the following reasons:

Single Blade Razors cause more irritation to the skin – a special concern for African American and Afro Latino men [with higher levels of melanin] resulting in the production of additional inflammatory mediators released as a result of the induction of melanogensis by irritated keratinocytes caused by the trauma from shaving

Single Blade Razors are more difficult to set up and more cumbersome to use especially for first time users or shavers transitioning from other shaving methods

Single Blade Razor shaving is more time consuming [covers a smaller surface area per stroke] and should be reserved only for shaving aficionados who relish the set up routine and process

SHAVING DO’s and DON’T’s

DO RESOLVE EXISTING SHAVING BUMPS & INGROWN HAIRS

Proper Shaving requires Bump-free skin and as such you should Never shave over existing bumps

Shaving over existing bumps will only worsen the condition including damage to the Skin

You must first resolve existing bumps prior to resumption of shaving or getting a hair cut

FACIAL BUMPS AND INGROWN HAIRS

DON’T use tweezers or any other tool to pull out “ingrown/entrapped hairs

This will only cause additional inflammation plus damage to the skin as well as skin darkening [post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation]

DO use the recommended products as directed to resolve existing bumps and all entrapped or ingrown hairs will be freed so you can resume normal shaving

BACK OF HEAD BUMPS

DON’T  shave or have a Barber shave the sensitive Back of the Head/Neck area [below the hairline] with any type of razor

DO use [or have the Barber use] a Clipper or Trimmer to shave the sensitive Back of the Head/Neck area [below the hairline]

RECOMMENDED RAZORS

Do use MULTI-BLADE RAZORS as they cause minimal irritation

MULTI-BLADE RAZORS are also best for African American Men [more prone to additional inflammation due to higher Melanin content

MULTI-BLADE RAZORS are also best for new shavers or shavers using razors for the first time [as they are easier to use and cause minimal irritation]

NEVER USE SINGLE RAZORS to shave your face as they cause significant irritation resulting in shaving bumps

SHAVING BUMP FORMATION BIOCHEMISTRY
SHAVING BUMP FORMATION BIOCHEMISTRY

SUMMARY

Shaving Bumps are Primarily Caused by the Trauma from Shaving

Ingrown hairs are Caused by Shaving Bumps

Ingrown hairs [more appropriately referred to as entrapped hairs] result when existing shaving bumps block the opening of the hair follicles on the skin forcing the normally growing hairs to grow into the existing bumps [hence the name ‘ingrown hairs’].

It is practically impossible [based on the structure of the Stratum Corneum] for the hair outside the skin [or hair cut at an angle] to curl and grow back into the skin contrary to what is claimed and published by many!

Blacks get more severe bumps due to higher content of MELANIN [the skin pigment]

Melanogenesis induced by irritated Keratinocytes produce additional inflammatory mediators – Cytokines and Reactive Oxygen Species [ROS]

Melanocytes also produce additional inflammatory Cytokines

It is best to shave with a multi-blade razor [causes minimal irritation] and coarse, curly hairs [manifested in all ethnic/racial groups] play no role in shaving bumps formation
